Monroe J. Carell, Jr., former chairman and CEO of Central Parking, dies at 76
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Monroe J. Carell Jr., a Nashville businessman who helped Central Parking Corporation become one of the largest parking providers in North America, died Friday after a battle with cancer. He was 76.
Carell served in the Navy before enrolling at Vanderbilt, where he graduated from the School of Engineering in 1959, according to a news release from the school that announced his death.
He was the chief engineer with the Duck River Electrical Cooperative before going to work for his father at Central Parking in 1967, where he later served as chairman and chief executive officer.
Among his honors, Carell was made a Knight of St. Gregory the Great by Pope John Paul II.
