Lucille Dukes
(1920 - 1966)

Online obituary

Lucille Dukes (Lang) was born on November 3 1920 in Marlin Texas. She married my father Eugene Dukes and had 3 children. My Mother wasn't alive long enough for us to become "Bestfriends", but she was around long enough to be my "Brownie" Leader. She taught us how to make "Hotdog Cheese Boats", hotdogs slit in the middle, add slice of cheese, place in bun, wrap in foil and heat in the oven. My mother also sold Avon and always smelled good. She knew that "Campbells Tomato Soup" was my favorite and always fixed it for me when we would come home for lunch on Thursday, her day off. She was the best gardener around and we had every type of flower that bloomed in our yard (front and back). She planted 2 Pink mini Rose bushes at the top of the stairs, one on each side, just for me. I had just turned 10 that August when my Mother had a heartattack. I was home playing sick that day when she collasped in the kitchen. I remember her last words "Call an ambulance", then she fell flat on the kitchen floor. While waiting for the ambulance, I kept telling her it's going to be okay and kept trying to turn her over. I still remember the sound of her breathing as she lay there, tears streaming down my face begging her to get up. The ride to the hospital seemed long and I kept looking through the back window of the ambulance (I was in the front seat). We buried her on Nov. 3, 1966 which was to be her 46th Birthday. People that have seen pictures of my parents say I look just like her and now that I am older I see it as well.
